9 million children in India suffer from severe acute malnutrition, the worst form of hunger. 1 million children die due to malnutrition related causes

Malnutrition is preventing millions of our children from reaching their potential, impairing their physical and mental development
But the good news is that we can stop children from dying of hunger.
Fight Hunger Foundation has been working tirelessly since its inception in 2012 to address this emergency situation and help children regain their basic human right- that of a life of dignity and the right to food and create a Hunger Free India

A world free from hunger is a world where our children have nutritious food, where they have access to clean drinking water and can live in a hygienic environment.

We have impacted the lives of 700,000 people across the 680 villages in the states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. We work with children, adolescent girls and boys, pregnant and lactating mothers, male caretakers and Government frontline workers.

Our approach is to tackle both the causes and effects of malnutrition, thereby our programs are both curative and preventive.

TREATMENT
We conduct door to door screening in villages where we work to identify signs of malnutrition in children under 5 years of age. Children suffering from acute malnutrition are enrolled in our program where we provide then Energy Dense Nutritional Supplement (EDNS) under medical supervision and closely track their growth indicators on a weekly basis. We also refer children to the nearest Nutritional Rehabilitation Centers (NRC) and followup with them until recovery.

PREVENTION
We educate and counsel pregnant, and lactating mothers on maternal and child nutrition, breastfeeding and care practices, complimentary feeding etc. This ensures healthy deliveries and enables new mothers to raise their children to be healthy and strong. We also educate the community on Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) to arrest the cycle of water borne diseases that lead to loss of vital nutrition in children thus contributing to malnutrition.

SUSTAINABILITY
To make our programs sustainable, we train Anganwadi, ASHA and other Government front-line workers on identifying signs of acute malnutrition in children, taking corrective action, maternal and child nutrition and sanitation. Through this we strengthen and support the existing Government structure. With the help of our supporters, we also refurbish Anganwadi centers with reconstructed walls, educational drawings, play equipment, hand washing stations etc. to to make them a playful and inviting place where children can learn and grow. We work consistently with the communities where we are present to bring about a behavior change in terms of nutrition and sanitation through education and awareness and enable them to fight malnutrition on their own in the long run.
